Karinhalle was Goerings country home, named after his first wife. It was full of stolen valuables: antiques, paintings, silverware and furniture.
According to Goering himself, he had burried much of his gold and money in the huge park around his castle. Some of it, but probably not everything, was found by the Soviets.
On the 20th of April 1945 he had his art treasures loaded onto about 24 Luftwaffe trucks. They went to Berchtesgaden, in the South of Bavaria. Goering himself followed after a short visit to Berlin to congratulate Hitler with his birthday.
Before he went, he blew up Karinhalle. He knew he would never return there.
